Me: “Do you like your new movie?”
Noah (watching his new Pokemon video on the car DVD player): “Yes Daddy!”
Me: “Good! What is Pikachu —-“
(Idiot driver to the right cuts across three lanes, nearly clipping my car)
Me: “SHIT!!!”
Noah: “What happened?!”
Me (catching my breath): “Nothing, it’s OK. Somebody just scared Daddy, that’s all.”
Noah: “Oh…”
(Pause)
Noah: “Why ‘shit’, Daddy?”
Me: “Daddy just got scared, it’s OK”
Noah: “Why ‘shit’, Daddy?”
Me: “Noah please don’t say that word.”
Noah: “What word?”
Me: “‘Shit’. Don’t say that word, please. It’s bad.”
Noah: “Why? Why ‘shit’, Daddy?”
Me: (Groan) “It’s a bad word. Daddy wasn’t supposed to say it, but he got scared. But it’s a word we aren’t supposed to say. So we won’t say it again. OK?”
Noah: “OK, Daddy!”
Me: “Good job!”

Noah: “Movie scares me. Wanna watch Care Bears.”
Me: “I’m sorry, Honey. Daddy didn’t bring your Care Bears movie”
Noah: “Oh. Dammit.”
