One of my favorite games played by some of my favorite people.

What the game Limbo would have looked like if there had been a flashlight.

Even though Alan Wake has been out for over two years, I still feel the need to point out the AWESOMENESS of this song.

  • Don’t let the high production values fool you, this was written explicitly for the game. Not only does it refer to Alan Wake plot points, it serves as a backdrop to one of the coolest horde battles I’ve ever experienced.
  • The in-game universe refers to the song as being written by a washed up (and slightly deranged) progressive rock group known as “The Old Gods Of Asgard”. In reality, the song was done by Finnish hard rock band Poets of the Fall. I felt they captured the essence of late 60’s / early 70’s prog-rock (Rush, Traffic, Jethro Tull, Yes, Genesis, et al…) perfectly, while still injecting enough modern rock elements to remain relevant.
  • Ditto the above point, for a guitarists point of view. I’ve played guitar for over twenty years, and my earliest influences were 70’s Brit hard rock (Led Zep, The Who, et al…) and I can tell you that from a musical perspective this song nails it. The chord changes, chord shapes, all reminiscent of 70’s proggressive and hard rock. Bullseye.
  • The “Boo-ya” call at the end was cool. Seriously.
